The Alpha Legion!

The Alpha Legion force was part of a narrative campaign seeing the Word Bearers and Alpha Legion form a brittle allegiance. I always liked the metallic color sheme and as soon as the new contrast color system hit the shelves i wanted to test it over a metallic surface. I also wanted to find a way to include the new Phobos Armor in an army. The Phobos Pattern has a very distinctive look that does not suit every Space Marine Force in my opinion. It has its place with the more specialized chapters like the Raven Guard or the Alpha Legion. Forces that heavily rely on special Ops style warfare are the perfect place for this. I also tried out several head options and other little conversions to make the Alpha Legion feel even more obscure and well-equipped.

The Story behind the combined forces of the Alpha Legion and the Word Bearers is shrouded in mystery but the few agents of the imperium that infiltrated their ranks and escaped with their lifes tell about a great guilt and a promise of righting the wrong. It seems that the motifs of the Word Bearers couldn’t be further from imperial expectations. They want peace. They are tired of the constant war and the never ending campaigns and hardships within the eye of terror. The only way to eternal peace lies in the all-consuming power of chaos. Only if every single man is united in chaos the long war will finally end. Or so they think.

In their misguided ways, the Alpha Legion formed a pact with the Word Bearers, thinking they could right the wrong when they sided with the Warmaster against the Emperor. They never wanted anything but peace. When they sided with Horus Lupercal, they did so to prevent the Aeldari Prophecy from happening. And so the unholy alliance between the serpent and the skull was formed, seeing the Alpha Legion seeking redemption alongside their brothers of the Word Bearers. To right the wrong, to end the long war and to establish ever lasting peace, be it under the rule of men or the primordial Annihilator!
